Tire falls in its 4th winter playoff

FC Spare Tire returned to the winter divisional playoffs for the second consecutive year and fourth in the past six after a successful 6-4 campaign this past season.

Tire was the third seed faced second-seed Vipers FC for the second time in three games at 4:30 p.m., Saturday, March 20 at Magnuson #6.

While Vipers finished with the same record and points total and with two more goals than Gunners, it was the week two Gunners 4-1 win over Vipers that put Gunners at the advantage of claiming the overall one seed.

Tire join top-seeded Gunners FC and four-seed Inter Feierabend. IF started hot, winning its first three games all by shutout before ending the season with a trifecta of tie-losses in a row. On Sunday, IF broke its streak with a 3-0 blanking of Rock in a nighttime contest at Robinswood.

The win was IF’s first since beating the last-place team nearly two months ago.

Then IF did the improbable and went from fifth place two weeks ago to a 4-2 victory over the Gunners in the early game at Magnuson on Saturday, March 20.

The playoff matchups:

2 Vipers FC v. 3 FC Spare Tire - 4:30 p.m., Saturday, March 20

1 Gunners FC v. 4 Inter Feierabend - 2:45 p.m., Saturday, March 20

Winners face at 9 a.m., Sunday, March 21 at Magnuson #6.
