Mr. Playoffs speaks
FC Spare Tire again turns to resident post-season expert Mr. Playoffs for guidance in how the Nov. 20-21 games appear to be shaping out with two regular season contests remaining:
November 7: FC Spare Tire can do no worse than finish the regular season in 2nd place. It can attribute nice wins against Old Ballz United and Smells Like Low Tide among reasons for a very successful season to date.
Regarding other teams who are battling for spots, here are the easy scenarios:
FC TayNam Seattle is in with 1 point from its last two matches, and will win the first place playoff seeding if they win their last two based on head-to-head result against Tire.
- Smells Like Low Tide is in with a tie or win.
- Hello World FC is in with a tie or win
For ECS FC Green, it appears a little more difficult.
- ECS has to beat FC Spare Tire and get wins from either Ruckus FC or Journeymen FC.
- If Low Tide ties and ECS wins, ECS would get in because of a better goal differential.
- If Hello World ties and ECS wins, Hello World would get in because of game result.
The first tie-breaker in a 3-way tie is still head-to-head, so, for example, if SLLT, ECS, and Hello all finish with 19, ECS would be out because SLLT would have 4 points, Hello would have 3 and ECS only 1.
It is possible that there is a 5-way tie for the last 3 spots if TayNam losses their last two there are many combinations for 3-way ties for the last spot, so if it involves a team you care about, you can figure out the scenarios on your own because I have wasted too much time doing this much.
FC Spare Tire sincerely thanks Mr. Playoffs for his scenario-crunching.
Oct. 30: A spot in the playoffs has been clinched!
OBU and FK can’t catch FC Spare Tire. One could possibly tie, but both SLLT and ECSFC-G cannot catch Tire because they play each other this weekend, so we are guaranteed to finish ahead of one of them. At worst we would finish 4th.
Not sure how the thing [game replay] with FCTA [FC TayNam Seattle] and FK will play out, but based on the standings as they sit now, a win in either of the last two games clinches first place.
Since FCTA now appears to have three games to play, they could get to 25 points
The winner of the ECSFC-G/SLLT game will be in good shape
Here is how I can see things playing out: SLLT and FCTA should win at least one of their two games; putting SLLT at 20 and FCTA at 19.
If we were in Vegas, Hello World would be favored in their last two games, so again three points for sure an d quite possibly four or six.
That puts SLLT at 20, FCTA at 19, and Hello World 18 or 19.
ECSFC-G has the toughest remaining schedule and could win, lose or tie both games.
I think it is going to take a minimum of 19 points to have a shot at making it, and I could see 20 points being required.
ECSFC-G and OBU are going to have to win both to get there … anything less and OBU will be out for sure, and ECSFC-G could be in trouble because Hello World and FCTA own the head-to-head tiebreaker.
FC Spare Tire is 4-5-5 all-time in all playoff games, taking five to PKs (1-4 all-time). Below is a better look at the FC Spare Tire results:
